POLICY – Less money for unemployed people for the benefit of motorists. The President of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti, advocates a 15-cent reduction in gasoline taxes to support the purchasing power of the French, a measure which would be offset in particular by the reduction in the duration and amount of unemployment benefits.

“Today, more than 5 million French people are registered with Pôle emploi while tens of thousands of companies are struggling to recruit in what we call sectors in tension”says the party’s number 1, in this interview given on the sidelines of the LR Youth Forum which is being held this weekend in Valence (Drôme). “We want to reduce the duration and amount of unemployment compensation to make it less attractive” he adds, convinced that this measure will represent a “ gain of several billion euros » for state coffers.
The motion of censure on the budget fades away
Qualifying as « camouflage budget » the finance bill (PLF) presented this week by the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, Éric Ciotti announced that his party would disclose its counter-budget ” in a few days “.
On the other hand, he buries the possibility that his party will bring down the government on a financial text. “Censoring a budgetary text means that there is an alternative majority to construct another budget (and) personally, I do not see myself discussing with Mr. Mélenchon’s friends to prepare another budget”he explains.
On the other hand, he does not rule out a motion of censure on the immigration bill if the government keeps in its text the principle of regularization of certain undocumented workers in professions in shortage. “We will use all institutional tools of expression to oppose this suicidal regularization”he promises.
