Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Anwar Gargash, Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs to the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, explained the outset of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to his country.
The visit of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stems from the UAE’s intention to perpetuate the Arab role in the Syrian file, and it also comes from an Emirati conviction of the need for political communication, openness and dialogue at the regional level.
This came in two tweets by Gargash on his Twitter page, where he said: “The UAE continues to adopt a realistic policy towards reducing tensions and strengthening the Arab role in a practical approach to finding solutions to the region’s crises, as the complex regional conditions require adopting a practical and logical approach that does not accept the marginalization of Arab efforts seeking to confront challenges and avoiding the evils of crises and strife.”
He continued, “The visit of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stems from the UAE’s aim to consolidate the Arab role in the Syrian file, and also comes from an Emirati conviction of the need for political communication, openness and dialogue at the regional level. The stage needs courageous steps to consolidate stability and prosperity and ensure the region’s future and the welfare of its people.”
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, met the Syrian President, in the first visit of Assad to an Arab country since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011. A good light, peace and stability for sister Syria and the entire region,” he said.
