After encountering difficulties in minefields at the Russian first line of defense at the start of their assault last June, the Ukrainians were forced to change strategy.

They had to abandon the tanks and several mobile equipment offered by Western countries to continue their offensive on foot.

At the end of August, the infantry finally broke through this first line of defense in the vicinity of the town of Robotyne; an advance that is difficult to see on a map, but which was very costly for the Ukrainians.

Now, still in the Zaporizhia region, they face a second – and even a third – line of defense at the axis drawn between the villages of Verbove and Novoprokopivka.

However, since the Ukrainian fighters have finally moved beyond the fields where the Russians planted huge quantities of mines, they can finally get back to using their tanks to attack enemy positions.

In the video, Ukrainian infantry soldiers can be seen advancing under the cover of a Leopard 2A6 tank from the 47th Mechanized Brigade.

The Leopard 2A6 is a German-made tank, similar to the eight Leopard 2A4 tanks that were gifted to Ukraine by Canada.

“It’s a good tank,” said a Ukrainian soldier in an interview with CNN.

According to comments from a crew collected by CNN, Western tanks, such as the Leopard 2A6, are more efficient than Russian tanks.

They have better guns, more range, and night vision capabilities.

Since the start of the counter-offensive, the Ukrainians have learned to better utilize its high-quality equipment for their assaults and can finally put their experience to work.

The Ukrainian counter-offensive continued into October despite the fast-approaching winter months.

The Russian Defense Ministry, however, said that the Ukrainian army has still not managed to break through its defense lines in this sector of the front.
