The Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH) and the Madrid Society of Hospital Pharmacists (SMFH) celebrated their r last TuesdayMadrid zone union. At the event, which had the collaboration of Roche, participants attended a multidisciplinary program focused on advances in precision medicine.

Cecilia Martínez, president of the SEFH, highlighted at the inauguration the value of a day, “where you can learn regarding the experiences that are being launched in Madrid to the healthcare integration of pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics in the Madrid community functions that were contemplated in the law on pharmaceutical management and care approved in December 2022.”

For his part, Mario García Gil, president of the SMFH, stressed that, “scientific societies we must be one of the facilitating agents in the precision medicine ecosystem where the pillars of collaborative research, design and improvement of care processes and circuits, relational model between professional profiles and quality training ensure that precision medicine is a transformational tool in patient care.”

Luis López from the Pharmacy Service of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in his presentation on ‘Opportunities for precision medicine in the Community of Madrid’, presented the recently published Catalog of genetic tests of the Common Portfolio of services of the National Health System approved by the Interterritorial Council of the SNS. Furthermore, he highlighted that, “Madrid is one of the few in Spain that still does not have a strategic and implementation plan in this area.. However, a pharmacogenetics working group has been created to coordinate the implementation of the common portfolio, agree on a common portfolio and request in the CAM and establish referral flows to guarantee equitable access to all citizens.

Subsequently, in the colloquium on advances in this field, Anna González-Neira (Human Genotyping Unit of the CNIO), Adrián Llerena (Director of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Extremadura) and Mario García. They talked regarding their careers and experiences and discussed the advances, opportunities and barriers in this area, moderated by Xandra García (Pharmacy Service of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital). They highlighted that the approval of A common pharmacogenomics portfolio with universal access within the National Health system is a milestone that places Spain at the forefront of precision medicine and that opens a unique opportunity to advance its implementation. However, they explained, it is still necessary to continue research to improve predictive models through massive sequencing technologies, polygenic scores and consideration of aspects such as polytherapy, comorbidities or ethnic variation. To this end, they highlighted the importance of training and collaborative and multidisciplinary work.

Integration

Javier Letéllez (Pharmacist at the Fuenlabrada Hospital), Jorge Fradejas (Pharmacist at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital) and care models.

The delegate of the SEFH in Madrid, Ismael Escobar, following presenting the new Board of Directors of the Society to the attendees, highlighted that, “the concepts of precision medicine and individualization of pharmacotherapy are fully integrated into the healthcare practice of the Hospital pharmacist, through the tools of pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics, as demonstrated by the experiences presented in this Conference. We must be proactive and integrated into the regional projects that are being developed in Madrid on this issue since the health system and, above all, the patients, They cannot waste or fail to benefit from our knowledge and experience.”.
