Archyde.com quoted sources as saying that the talks that took place for 5 days in Riyadh between Saudi officials and a delegation from the Houthi group achieved some progress.

The sources told the agency that the progress achieved during the talks aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen relates to the main sticking points, including the timetable for the exit of foreign forces from Yemen, and the mechanism for paying the wages of government employees.

She added that the Houthi delegation intends to leave Riyadh on Tuesday, noting that the two sides will meet to hold further talks after consultations expected to take place soon.

According to Archyde.com, the talks focus on fully reopening the Houthi-controlled ports and Sanaa airport, paying government employee wages, and rebuilding efforts, in addition to setting a timetable for the exit of foreign forces from Yemen.

The agency said that reaching an agreement during the talks would allow the United Nations to resume a political peace process in Yemen on a broader scale.

The Houthi delegation arrived in Saudi Arabia last week in the first visit of its kind to the Kingdom since the outbreak of war in Yemen.

Last Thursday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced an invitation to a delegation from the Yemeni capital, Sanaa – which is controlled by the Houthis – to visit the Kingdom and complete discussions on reaching a Yemeni political solution. Washington welcomed the visit and called for exploiting the existing truce in order to reach a political solution in Yemen.

This visit came about 5 months after a visit by a Saudi delegation to Sanaa to discuss the peace process.

Before the group’s delegation traveled to Riyadh, a member of the Supreme Political Council of the Houthis, Muhammad Ali Al-Houthi, said that the discussions include “disbursing the salaries of Yemeni employees, opening airports and ports, releasing all prisoners and detainees, the exit of foreign forces, and reconstruction, leading to a comprehensive political solution.”
