In recent years, the development in the field of health has been overwhelming, hand in hand with the research of public and private institutions worldwide. Has it progressed? What is pending?
Many times, clinging to a conservative instinct, we tend to think that all past times were better. For example, we might be on the street without fear of being mugged or something even worse happening to us. Or the boys might entertain themselves playing face to face and not through a screen. And is that irreversible? We do not know. Are our children going to be better or worse than us because of this? We don’t have that answer either. But neither in all aspects that passage of time brought negative aspects. And it seems that the medicine was one of them.

In recent years, the development in the field of health It was overwhelming, hand in hand with the research of public and private institutions worldwide. We can constantly find new treatments, new diagnostic tools that allow us to reach them faster and/or more efficiently, as well as new devices and prostheses.

For example, some malignant tumors which a few years ago were found late and therefore with a bleak prognosis, today they can be diagnosed on time, allowing the patient to carry out an effective treatment. However, there is still a long way to go, since this is not the scenario for all types of cancer today. Today there are multiple types of prostheses that years ago were just a figment of the imagination. This allows to improve the quality of life of many patients. Small and big advances in medicine are constant. This obviously entails a large investment in research as well as an increase in the costs of medical benefits, since there are increasingly more specific and expensive tools and treatments.
However, there is an aspect of medicine that has deteriorated extremely over time and it is the very life of the doctor. We can explain that in some aspects. The most obvious and known to most is the underpayment that doctors receive in exchange for their work. Bills are not paid with applause and our children cannot support themselves just by doing something we are passionate regarding.
Like every professional, the doctor deserves a decent fee and even more so if we take into account the risks to which we are exposed every day and the responsibilities we carry on our backs in each of our decisions and actions. Nothing more and nothing less than the life and quality of life of our patients. But there are other aspects, perhaps less well known, that also deteriorate the quality of life of health personnel. Today we are inserted in a more intolerant society, with frequent disrespect and attacks on health personnel (referring not only to doctors, but to all the agents that make up the health system) that often also prevents proper work and development in the field of health.
Unfortunately, the loss of values can also be seen in the deterioration of the relationship doctor-patient. They are nothing more than reflections of a society to which, unfortunately, the passage of time not only brought development, but also misery. But I always choose to be one of those who think that all this can be corrected and that a society needs something fundamental to function properly: education. Mainly, the one that begins in the house and the family.
