From Ahmed Gamal.
Abu Dhabi, September 14 / WAM / Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence continues its prominent research efforts to advance artificial intelligence and harness it as a global force that contributes to the progress and well-being of humanity. It seeks to establish and strengthen partnerships in the field of scientific research and development, and hone students’ skills to build the next generation of innovators who They have the knowledge and competence to continue the process of developing technology in the country and the world, and its research is currently devoted to 3 main areas: health, education, and climate.
In the following report, the Emirates News Agency, WAM, reviews the university’s most prominent research projects in the field of climate, and its initiatives and partnerships with a number of global institutions that support efforts to achieve sustainability and climate neutrality.
The university’s artificial intelligence operating system is leading efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of artificial intelligence computing itself, and the university aims to use its artificial intelligence operating system (AIOS) to significantly reduce the energy and time costs of artificial intelligence computing, by developing models that are small, fast, and low in reliance on Advanced devices, characterized at the same time by efficient performance and ease of adapting to changing environments.
MBZUAI’s AI Operating System (AIOS) can also lay the foundations for the development of the next generation of AI software through automated code generation, unified and collaborative machine learning, and standardized and validated software architecture, which will be used across industrial sectors. Various types such as energy, agriculture, water, food, etc., to enhance logistics capabilities, predictive maintenance capabilities, adaptive operation and precise management.
The Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence cooperated with IBM to establish the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi. The center aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides in order to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and harness them to advance sustainability efforts, develop carbon neutral solutions for energy supplies and confront the challenges of climate change.
Experts from IBM and the university are focusing on efforts to reduce carbon emissions, in addition to promoting advanced scientific research aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.
The joint research teams will work to develop artificial intelligence accelerators and basic artificial intelligence models, which can support the deployment of clean and renewable energy technologies in many key economic sectors, paving the way for the use of carbon-neutral solutions while enhancing adaptation and flexibility mechanisms.
Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence is also conducting research on artificial intelligence models to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of cloud seeding, and artificial intelligence systems dedicated to forecasting extreme weather events, which are expected to increase with the increasing effects of climate change.
With its ability to analyze massive amounts of global data, AI can be used to measure greenhouse gas emissions and identify potential patterns important to scientists and policymakers.
The university has strengthened collaborative efforts with a group of the best international experts from prestigious academic institutions such as the University of California at Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and University of California at San Diego, with the aim of addressing the unsustainable costs of large language models, and designing the chatbot (Vicuna), which has a small carbon footprint. .
In another project, a team of researchers at the Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, the University of British Columbia, and Monash University worked on creating the (LaMini-LM) platform, which is a set of language models that they are looking to deploy in resource-poor environments such as devices. Computer and mobile phones.
The LaMini-LM platform is a set of small-scale, efficient language models trained on a large-scale dataset. The team developed the LaMini-LM platform by extracting knowledge and capabilities from the ChatGPT application, just as a teacher transfers… A miniature version of his vast knowledge to students.
