Experts in cardiology recently met at the electrophysiology symposium led by the American College of Cardiology Chapter Puerto Rico to explain advances and developments in the field of cardiac electrophysiology.
This branch of cardiology is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from cardiac arrhythmias, therefore, during this convention a space was offered to discuss its most recent cutting-edge advances.
In this regard, Dr. Valentín Del Río, president and governor of the American College of Cardiology Chapter Puerto Ricoreported that in Puerto Rico There are between 10 to 15 electrophysiologists who are dedicated to studying cardiac arrhythmias.
“Although heart rhythm disease is not number one compared to coronary heart disease, they are very prevalent in our population due to different risk factors. We have an incidence of atrial fibrillation high in Puerto Rico“he reported.
Current therapies in the field of electrophysiology
For his part, Dr. Juan Nieves, treasurer and secretary of the ACC Chapter Puerto Ricodiscussed current trends in ventricular tachycardia ablation, a vital procedure in electrophysiology.
“Our electrophysiologists are trained to perform this type of procedures and receive patients who have had ventricular tachycardia, in this case to perform an effective ablation,” he highlighted.
It is worth mentioning that electrophysiology has experienced notable advances in recent years. Technology has improved both the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, providing doctors with more effective tools to care for their patients.
Management of cardiac arrhythmias in Puerto Rico
“Electrophysiology has evolved in recent years and in Puerto Rico We have all the technology necessary for us to provide these types of services. In the majority of hospitals that are dedicated to cardiology We have most of the equipment that we used when we trained in the United States,” acknowledged Dr. Del Río.
The electrophysiology symposium served as a fundamental space to address the challenges and advances in the discipline of cardiac electrophysiology. With a focus on early detection and effective treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, local doctors and specialists are committed to improving the heart health of Puerto Ricans.
