Keynote Address: Alain Berard Highlights the Crucial Role of Supply Chain in Manufacturing

The event commenced with a keynote address by Alain Berard, Director of Development and International Relations at the Port of Montreal, who emphasized the vital importance of the supply chain in supporting Quebec and Canada’s manufacturing future. Berard used a poignant analogy to illustrate the St. Lawrence Seaway’s significance to Canada’s manufacturing sector, likening it to the spinal cord that sustains the country’s manufacturing strength and economic vitality.

Berard Unveils Plans for Contrecœur Terminal Expansion

Berard also detailed the Montreal Port Authority’s ambitious plans to expand the Contrecœur Terminal, which will increase the facility’s container shipping capacity to 1.15 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually. The expansion project involves the construction of two berths, a container handling area, an intermodal marshalling yard connected to the main rail network, and a truck gate linked to the road system. Strategically located in an industrial zone near major transportation routes, the expanded terminal aims to enhance supply chain efficiency and drive regional economic growth.
