According to a media report, following taking the strategically important city of Sievjerodonetsk in eastern Ukraine, Russian troops also advanced across the river to the neighboring city of Lysychansk. This was reported by the Interfax news agency, citing a representative of the pro-Russian separatists who are said to be involved in the advance. After the fall of Sieverodonetsk, Lysychansk is the last major Ukrainian bastion in the Luhansk region.
Before the war, Lysychansk had around 100,000 inhabitants.
