Adrien Dolimont, Walloon Minister of Budget, Responds to Claims of Bankruptcy: What’s Next for Wallonia’s Finances?

Adrien Dolimont, the Walloon Minister of the Budget, was the Alex Reed of Bel RTL matin. At Martin Buxant’s microphone, he commented on the words of the head of the Walloon Business Union, Cécile Neven, who said last week that “Wallonia was headed straight for bankruptcy”.

Adrien Dolimont first said to himself “quite surprised by Cécile Neven’s statements”. The budget was voted on in plenary session last Wednesday, therefore the day he spoke. He adds : “the next day, Moody’s rating (rating agency which monitors the finances of Wallonia) was maintained… And these agencies certify that we are still able to finance the policies we want to pursue. That’s the objective today, it is to be able to make the investments necessary for the transition”.

The Walloon minister nevertheless qualified: “I’m not saying that everything is rosy. The budgetary trajectory is sustainable”. “More”he said, “the level is worrying and we will have to reform during the next legislature”.

As a reminder, the deficit amounts to 3 billion euros in 2024. Walloon debt rises to more than 36 billion.
