Ruano qualified for the Olympics by winning the gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. The athlete’s specialty is the trap, a competition that will take place at the Paris Olympic Games on July 30 and 31, at the Chaterauroux Shooting Center, two hours and 15 minutes from the city of light.

Adriana grew up with a passion for sport. She first did ballet and then artistic gymnastics. However, before seeking to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics, she suffered a serious spinal injury that forced her to abandon the sport.

That’s how she discovered shooting with hunting weapons, which motivated her to get ahead and where years later he fulfilled his Olympic dream, by qualifying for Tokyo 2020.

Rematch

Being able to return to the Olympics is a revenge. “After the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, I was grateful to God for fulfilling my dream, but following returning I had to experience the death of my father and, for that reason, I did not enjoy it. These have not been easy years, but I have never given up and today I am getting results,” said the athlete.

For the 2024 Paris edition, the shooter is one of the flag bearers, along with Luis Grijalva, from athletics. The flag bearers are Kevin Cordón, from badminton, and Waleska Soto, also from shooting. “I am proud to have received the assignment. It is a dream and an honor to carry the flag because at the same time I represent all Guatemalans,” he said.

A better version

The shooter says she is in better shape for Paris 2024, especially following winning gold at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

We have been working hard to reach the best level. The support of my coach Pedro Martín Fariza (Spanish) and my psychologist Ricardo González It has been important to strengthen the technical and mental aspects, two aspects that define a lot in this sport,” shared the Guatemalan.

“If I compare the Adriana who participated in Tokyo 2020 with the current one, I can say with certainty that I am stronger,” she said with a pleasant smile.

Ruano finished his participation in the previous edition of the Olympics in 26th place with a score of 110, following five rounds. “Part of the key to the games in Paris will be to enjoy the process, each and every moment, as well as taking care of every detail to arrive at the best level and achieve a good result,” he stressed.
