The plenary session of the Congress of the Republic approved this Tuesday, August 20, granting the Order of the Sovereign National Congress to Olympic athletes Adriana Ruano and Jean Pierre Brol, who made history for Guatemala during their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics, where they won gold and bronze medals, respectively.
Both athletes stood out in the discipline of hunting gun shooting in the Olympic trap modality.
For this reason, with 119 votes, the plenary session of Congress approved awarding the Order of the Sovereign National Congress in the degree of Grand Collar to Adriana Ruano, for the gold medal in Paris 2024.
In addition, with 116 votes, the plenary session of Congress approved awarding the Order of the Sovereign National Congress in the rank of Knight to Jean Pierre Brol for his bronze medal at the Paris Games.
In the same session, but with 109 votes, Congress approved an agreement to congratulate the entire delegation of athletes who competed in the Olympic Games, where they participated in seven disciplines and left two Olympic medals in the games that are considered the best national participation in history.
The awards ceremony will take place on August 27 during a solemn session, as established by Decree 47-95 of the Congress of the Republic.
According to a publication by the Congress of the Republic, several prominent Guatemalans have also been recognized with this decoration, such as the writer Mario Monteforte Toledo, the mountain climber Jaime Viñals and the athlete Érick Barrondo, a walker who won a silver medal in London 2012.

According to the Congress of the Republic, the decoration in the rank of Grand Collar will be awarded to heads of state, whether kings, princes, sovereigns or presidents of state. It may also be awarded to crown princes or princes consort.
Knight (Jean Pierre Brol)
The Legislature defines that the decoration of the rank of Knight is for secretaries, embassy attachés, vice-consuls and distinguished citizens.
