ADRIAN Newey, considered the best designer in Formula 1 and the brains behind the Red Bull team’s dominance in land jet racing, will leave the team in the followingmath of the controversy over Christian Horner.

Newey, 65, has been with Red Bull since 2005 and has played a major role in the team’s success in winning 13 world titles, seven drivers’ titles and six constructors’ titles, since 2010.

However, he was reportedly unhappy following Horner was accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by a female worker.

Horner was found not guilty by an internal investigation carried out by the Formula 1 team’s parent company and the woman who made the allegations was suspended. The woman appealed the decision.

The source confirmed Newey’s desire to leave was due to his dissatisfaction with Horner’s situation which had led to a power struggle at Red Bull.

Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is also reportedly disturbed by the situation regarding the Horner case.

Verstappen’s future at Red Bull is in question following last month, his father, Jos, said Red Bull was in danger of breaking up if Horner remained as team principal.

Last year, Verstappen and Red Bull delivered the most dominant performance in Formula 1 history. The Dutch driver won 19 of 22 races while Red Bull emerged victorious in all but one.

This season, Red Bull has won four of the five races that have been held. (AFP/Z-1)
