Adonis Georgiadis spoke about what is in force with the new KYA for barren lines.
In particular, he emphasized that in September all four positions of pathologists for the hospital of Kos will be announced.
The Minister of Health appeared on SKAI’s morning show and spoke about the Joint Ministerial Decision (JMA) that will concern the incentives given to doctors to serve in barren areas. Adonis Georgiadis said: “The goal is, within the next ten days, to have issued the Joint Ministerial Decision on the incentives for barren areas, after the relevant law we passed in the Parliament, at the end of July.”
He added: “With these incentives, a doctor who goes to a barren area – in which we have made repeated announcements and they are barren -, will receive the time 7,200 euros in addition to his salary, extra money on call, free housing from the Municipality and more. I believe that with the new incentives that we have put in place, we will be making announcements immediately. For example, in Kos, in September, we will announce all four positions of pathologists and I believe we will solve the problem as a whole”.
Regarding the lack of human resources in the National Health Service, the Minister of Health admitted that doctors and nurses are underpaid and pointed out: “The system remains standing thanks to the great patriotism and professionalism of the doctors – and I want to thank them very much for this – and the other staff of the NHS.
According to newsit, this is a difficult period for all the National Health Systems of Europe. The lack of human resources is the number one problem.”
Mr. Georgiadis estimated that the biggest inconvenience in the NHS is the very long waits at the emergency room in the big hospitals. “It’s really unacceptable for someone to wait in a hospital for ten hours to be able to find out if they will need hospitalization or not. The Ministry of Health and I personally must focus as much as we can to reduce this wait as much as possible. I promise as the Minister of Health that I will do my best to reduce their suffering in these waits, which is indeed long today,” he said.
