ADO Den Haag convincingly wins 2-1 against FC Volendam

ADO Den Haag booked its first victory of the season. At home against FC Volendam it became 2-1. Goals by Schalk and Vlak gave ADO Den Haag a comfortable lead. Henk Veerman did something back but the more than deserved victory remained in the Bingoal Stadium.

ADO Den Haag started the second home match of the season with a slightly changed line-up again. Striker Lee Bonis made his first appearance in the shirt of ADO Den Haag, Steven van der Sloot returned after his suspension and Juho Kilo was allowed to replace the injured Finn de Bruin in midfield. On the side of FC Volendam a familiar face, namely the top scorer of ADO Den Haag and the Keuken Kampioen Divisie of last season, Henk Veerman.

The home team shot out of the starting blocks. In less than ten minutes, ADO Den Haag not only dominated in possession, but also managed to create five attempts on goal. The fast Ideho swung the ball into the penalty area and managed to reach Bonis for the first time. It was because goalkeeper de Lauwens had just a little more jumping power, which allowed him to box the ball away before the Northern Irish striker could get his head to it. Less than a minute later, ADO Den Haag came close again, the ball ended up at the feet of Van der Sloot from the scramble, who saw his attempt on goal just go over.

After twenty minutes the game became more equal and FC Volendam also had its first chances. After 25 minutes of play it was Coremans who was fortunately in the right place to grab a header from close range.

Just after the half hour mark, the ban was broken. It was ADO Den Haag that took a 1-0 lead via Alex Schalk. He had the opportunity to slide in a cross from Van Mieghem at the far post. ADO Den Haag did not let it rest and remained the superior team for the remainder of the first half. However, it did not really come to fruition, which meant that ADO Den Haag went into the dressing room with a 1-0 score.

ADO Den Haag started the second half unchanged and continued where it left off in the first half. There was an immediate chance for debutant in yellow-green Lee Bonis who put a lot of energy into the match. However, his shot from close range was an easy catch for keeper Lauwers. Within five minutes there was also the second big chance of the second half. Jari Vlak got the ball on the edge of the sixteen in a free position but his shot was not between the posts.

However, it did not take long for ADO Den Haag to double the margin. Ten minutes after the break, it was Vlak who managed to cut out his opponent twice and beat goalkeeper Lauwers with a well-considered ball. However, it was immediately a matter of being careful on the other side, where Coremans made a great save to prevent a possible quick equalizer.

The connecting goal came after an hour of play. After Lee Bonis could not convert a beautiful cross from Ideho into a goal, the other side scored in the counterattack. It was Henk Veerman, who had already found the net in the Bingoal Stadium more often last season, who put the 2-1 on the scoreboard.

The real counter-offensive of the Volendammers seemed to be quickly stopped when Beukers was shown a second yellow card in the sixty-sixth minute. Nevertheless, ADO Den Haag had to remain vigilant. It was Volendam that, with one man down, was becoming increasingly dangerous. ADO Den Haag also had the necessary chances themselves, but no more goals were scored.

It was ADO Den Haag who could celebrate the first victory of the season after the final whistle. With five points from three matches, ADO Den Haag is still undefeated in the KKD this season. The next home match is already waiting on Friday. Excelsior will then visit the Bingoal Stadium.
