Administrative Court of Cundinamarca asks President Iván Duque for restraint | Colombian Elections

By denying a popular action with which they sought to order President Iván Duque remain silent in the face of the proposals of the presidential candidates, the Administrative Court of Cundinamarca denied this claim, but warned him to keep restraint in your comments, those who can lend themselves to associate it with political intervention.

“Iván Duque Márquez, in his capacity as President of the Republic and public servant, has restrictions on his prerogative to communicate his opinions regarding the qualities of who might be his successor, since, as already indicated, he is the first leader and magistrate of the nation”, the Court points out.

Although the judicial body refrains from imposing sanctions on the president, yes it urges him to adopt a cautious attitude towards proposals of the candidates on the eve of the elections.

“It would be a profound transgression of democracy itself, to allow someone with such political power, such as the Head of State, Head of Government, Supreme Administrative Authority, to present proposals in favor of, once morest or qualifying the government proposals of those who aspire to have that investiture and advance a battle of ideas, programs, gestures, feelings and emotions to obtain the greatest popular support”concludes the ruling of Judge Rodrigo Mazabel Pinzón.
