Indonesian PECATUR IM Aditya Bagus Arfan succeeded in winning the GM category at the Pertamina Indonesian GM Tournament which was held on April 23-May 1 at the Artotel Gelora Senayan Hotel, Jakarta.
He led the standings until the last round with 8.5 points. Below him, there are compatriot GM Novendra Priasmoro (7.5) and Australian chess player Temur Kuybokarov (7).
Aditya said that next week he will go to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the 2024 Sharjah Masters from May 14 to May 22. It was an open tournament.
“My target is to get the Grand Master (GM) title this year,” said Aditya firmly.
Meanwhile, General Chairperson of PB Percasi GM Utut Adianto said Aditya finally got his first norm towards the GM title. The chess athlete still needs to win twice to win the title.
“The title will follow the quality of the game. To become a GM is not easy, it requires continuous training, a great coach, and tournaments that suit your abilities,” said Utut.
He also thanked Pertamina and Bank Mandiri for supporting the event held by Percasi. “Hopefully we can hold it twice a year (GM Tournament),” said Utut. (Z-6)
