Adiemus – Sounds of Heaven and Earth: A Uniting Musical Project

GARSTE. A large symphony orchestra, eight percussion instruments and a women’s choir await the audience on Saturday, October 21st, in the Garsten Abbey Church. The concert “Adiemus – Sounds of Heaven and Earth” brings works by Karl Jenkins, Max Steiner, John Williams and the Enns composer Michael Schrattbauer.

In the first part, the audience will hear music by two of the most famous composers of film music: Max Steiner, who wrote the music for “Casablanca” and “Gone with the Wind” and John Williams, who is best known for the music for Steven Spielberg’s films and of course the Harry Potter film music is known for.

“Star Journey” by Michael Schrattbauer will also be heard. He was born in Steyr in 1979 and composes film music and music for .

Project that unites peoples

The second part of the concert will be dedicated to a large work for women’s choir and orchestra. “Adiemus” by Karl Jenkins is planned by the composer as a project that unites peoples. Arabic, African, Indian, Japanese, Chinese and even Australian sounds combine with Celtic music and traditional church music.

The text does not consist of words but of syllables without meaning. No text should distract from the sound. “Adiemus” is meant to be understood by every audience, everywhere.
