The ARS announced, through a press release, the detection of two cases of tuberculosis identified among the asylum seekers occupying Place des Amandiers. The two sick people were isolated and put on treatment.

The investigation into these two cases is underway and screening operations for all contact cases will be finalized in the coming days.

If other cases are detected, the confirmed patients will in turn be isolated. Affected people are cared for by the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Unit (UMIT). Operational management measures are provided by the Anti-Tuberculosis Center (CLAT) of the Red Cross.

The health agency says that “medical monitoring protocols, as well as prevention measures have been strengthened to minimize risks and guarantee the safety of the population“.

As a reminder, last September, a report from Public Health France indicated that 75 cases of tuberculosis had been recorded in Guyana in 2021. Guyana is the French region most affected by tuberculosis with 25.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants..
