The number of moral incidents (acts of violence and sexual harassment) is increasing in the Brussels Region, especially in the hospitality and nightlife sectors, according to preliminary figures recorded by the Coordination and Management Department. ‘Brussels support from the Federal Police for the current year. In the category “drinking establishments“, there are twenty reports, eight of which concern attacks on sexual integrity and ten, rape. Two complaints were also filed for voyeurism.

In Brussels dance halls, three denunciations were recorded this year, including two for attacks on sexual integrity and one for rape. There were also nine denunciations in the category “attraction et parc d’attractions“. In 2022, there were 29 denunciations in the category “liquor store“, 6 in the category “attraction et parc d’attractions“, 9 in the category “dance establishment“and one in the category”fair, festival and fair“.

We observe a general upward trend, estimates the DCA, “particularly in the category of restaurants and drinking establishments and in dance establishments“. Furthermore, numerous acts of morality are also reported in Brussels parks. The figures from an annual overview show that in 2022 and 2023, at least 44 and 19 acts of this type have been reported in Brussels regional parks . In 2020 and 2021, there were 49 and 39 incidents, most of which occurred in the Brussels park. The figures from the Brussels DCA are not easy to interpret. There is a strong influence of the crisis linked to Covid on the figures for 2020-2021, and a large “black number” of people who do not file a complaint.
