Caretaker Health Minister Firas Al-Abyad said: “The successive crises in Lebanon have led to waves of emigration among our educated youth, especially among the medical and nursing cadres, and this constitutes the most important challenges facing our health system and our societal security. In the past, universities in Lebanon played a major role in the prosperity that our country witnessed, especially following independence, and Lebanon became the University of the East, but wars and conflicts, and the predominance of factional and individual interests, led us to a significant decline in the education sector, which in turn was reflected in education From here, we, like the Ministry of Public Health, sound the alarm, as the continuation of crises without a horizon for a solution will only lead to a further decline in the level of health services provided, and to more migration of cadres and human energies, especially among graduates. Therefore, the step taken by the Ministry was to support the demands of health workers and their unions to ensure that they receive salaries that guarantee them and their families a decent living that enables them to stand firm in their homeland and serve their families, and it is a temporary solution waiting for the homeland to restore its health and the sectors to recover.”
He concluded: “We call on our society to unite and cooperate behind Makassed University and Association, and to provide it with all aid and support, to ensure its continuity in carrying out its heavy burden in raising generations, treating patients, responding to the needy, and preserving values and heritage.”
