According to the latest Information Security Maturity Report from ClubCISO and Telstra Purple, the shortage of cyber accounts is of greater concern to CISOs than the current economic uncertainty. Lack of staff is the number one concern (51%) of CISOs when asked what factors most affect their ability to achieve their goals.
More than half (52%) of CISOs say they plan to expand their team this year and only 5% plan to downsize. The culture of the organization comes next (31%), showing that human and cultural challenges are still considered to have more impact on the ability to achieve objectives than macroeconomic challenges such as budgets (29%), the supply chain (25%) and the economic slowdown (22%).
The report also shows that CISOs recognize the value of diversity: 78% believe it is beneficial to bring different perspectives to the business, while improving culture (54%) and promoting greater innovation (48%) are the next most common reasons.
Kevin Fielder, Member of the ClubCISO Advisory Board, says, “In safety teams, it is encouraging to see that diversity is seen as an opportunity and must be actively pursued to meet the challenges we face in the workplace. The report highlights the ingenuity of CISOs who are now looking at diversity from different angles, including cultural, racial, educational and professional.
The vast majority (84%) of respondents are convinced or very convinced that their organization has implemented a strategy to offer equal opportunities to candidates. But opinions are more divided on the best way to recruit these diverse teams. CISOs mainly recruit candidates from cultural or racial diversity (60%), but the next strategy is the recruitment of candidates from educational diversity (48%). Hiring candidates from diverse professional backgrounds is almost as common (47%), but it is less common to focus on gender diversity, with only 36% paying particular attention to it.
