Up to three complaints a day are channeled to the Attorney General’s Office for animal abuse in Sonora, in different ways, Carolina Araiza Sánchez announced.

Although the Animal Health and Welfare Directorate does not attend to complaints, it channels them to the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the type of abuse; being the lack of food, abandonment, physical violence the complaints with the highest incidence, he commented.

He explained that complaints can be made through the 911 emergency line, as well as in the direction of Animal Health and Welfare to refer them to the Prosecutor’s Office. “Where they are constantly throwing garbage, they are doing their needs in their things, they are victims of abuse, but we do know of cases where there are aggressors inside the home, that ex-partners or issues of that type that hurt animals,” he explained.

Another type of complaint they receive regularly is from stray dogs that destroy the streets, which is also considered violence because it is abandonment.
