Addival, Spain, has purchased a RenAM500Q Ultra from Renishaw. It will use it to expand series production of stamping tools. The Barcelona company developed the tool jointly with Renishaw.

The punching tools are mainly used for bending pipes, but can also be used in the sheet metal processing industry. The tools are hardened to 60 HRC and are heat treated and have a special anti-wear surface treatment. The punching tools were recently presented for the first time at the Barcelona International Tool Show.

Tempus software is the deciding factor

Adiwal Addival is part of the MMM Group, a Spanish supplier to the automotive industry. A patented punching tool was developed with Renishaw and is now in production. It is expected to print around 100 to 120 punching tools per month. A big part of the reason for choosing Renishaw’s 3D metal printer was the new Tempus software released late last year. “This technology allows the laser to start production at the same time as the scanner feeds and positions each powder layer, increasing productivity and reducing the production cost of each part,” said Marc Gardon, Addival’s Additive Manufacturing Applications Manager. Addival tested various 3D printing technologies, including binder jetting. Ultimately, laser powder bed fusion became the most suitable solution.

Join the American Initiative

Renishaw also announced that it would join the United States Additive Manufacturing AllianceThe industry initiative aims to bring wider attention to the potential impacts of additive manufacturing on areas such as national security, health, manufacturing and more. To this end, the association will actively inform and persuade congressional decision-makers and the government in Washington. John Laureto, Americas Additive Manufacturing Business Manager at Renishaw, said: “As the use of additive manufacturing continues to expand and enter new markets, the Additive Manufacturing Alliance will help to become a voice in support of all that additive manufacturing has to offer.”
