Firefighters from the Vesdre-Hoëgne & Plateau (VHP) rescue zone responded to a light traffic accident on Monday, March 27, on the A3/E40 towards Liège, near Soumagne. Following this incident, an additional accident occurred a hundred meters ahead, following which the Verviers ambulance reached the scene. In a statement released later, the VHP emphasized the importance of respecting the safety corridor for ensuring the smooth functioning of emergency vehicles.
The incident caused severe traffic congestion on the motorway, resulting in a complete standstill from the Battice interchange to Liège. According to reports on social media, the accident involved a truck and three cars, with congestion building up quickly.
Thankfully, the commander of the VHP rescue zone confirmed in the followingnoon that the highway had reopened.
