Pertamina’s efforts to increase stocks of all types of fuel oil (BBM) by five times and LPG by up to 54.6% during the MotoGP in Mandalika, West Nusa Tengara (NTB), are considered capable of encouraging regional economic movement.

According to Mataram University business economics observer Muhammad Firmansyah, apart from supporting the success of the 2024 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia or MotoGP Mandalika, 27-29 September 2024, this effort will also stimulate the local economy.

“This is a preventive step so that fuel is not scarce, but from an economic and business aspect, indirectly, the addition of fuel and LPG during MotoGP also has a big impact on the local economy. There will be a domino effect on society,” he said by telephone in Jakarta, Saturday. (28/9).

By adding fuel and LPG stocks, the MotoGP event will run smoothly, people’s needs are guaranteed, and the opportunity for speculators to emerge will be eliminated so that economic activity can move more quickly.

He gave an example, the food and beverage business is one sector that will feel a positive impact, especially as ticket sales continue to increase and are expected to be higher than the number of MotoGP 2023 spectators, namely 102 thousand spectators.

“In holding this MotoGP, what the audience will really need is food and drink. That will be a priority outside of the event,” he said.

Firmansyah expressed confidence that holding MotoGP, especially through the support of fuel and LPG supplies by Pertamina, would have a very positive impact on the local community’s economy.

This, he said again, was in line with a study by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which previously stated that MotGP had a good impact on the economy.

However, he hopes that the upstream sector can be further improved so that it can be utilized better. In this case, MSMEs are not solely sellers, but it needs to be prioritized that the products sold are local products, not from outside the province.
