Adapting to Life in the USA: Terry Putri’s Culture Shock Story

Terry Putri shared the story of facing culture shock when she chose to live with her husband in the United States. Used to being the majority, now he is a minority in someone else’s country.

“We are used to everything being very comfortable in Indonesia. What else would our lives be like in a world like this. When I was there, it was like turning over my hand, everything changed, but the consequences, right? Consequences of choices,” he said. Terry Putri at the Rumpi: No Secret studio, yesterday.

Accustomed to filming every day, now living in the United States, Terry Putri doesn’t have a job. There are many differences felt when living in the United States with all the new habits.

“Previously here (Indonesia) we were filming every day, there was no work at all there. Why don’t you work? Then here (Indonesia) it’s all bro, there everyone has to be alone, has to work, has to work, can’t live there or not work,” said Terry Putri.

Terry Putri really felt how she struggled to adapt to living in her new environment. The thing that caught his attention the most was when he had to adapt to hearing the way local residents spoke, which he considered very loud, like they were angry.

“It’s like that, I like to be surprised, here the people are sweet, Indonesians are really good when they talk. The first time you go there, why do you have to shout when you talk, there’s always an f word in it that has an s in it? “It’s in every sentence. Why are people so angry? Yes, maybe it’s culture shock. We’re not used to it, especially since we go through everything here,” he said.

When she first started living in the United States with her husband, Terry Putri admitted that she often cried. Terry Putri said her husband knew regarding this.

“Cry, ask my man. I like to cry in the bathroom, like to cry in the kitchen, like to cry,” admitted the presenter.

“Afraid of people. We are veiled, minorities, we are used to being in the majority and becoming a minority. Oh, there are a lot of people, they are really struggling,” said Terry Putri, smiling.
