“No clear strategy for AI and hardly any money for AI research,” criticizes Lukas Schobesberger, federal chairman and top candidate for the 2023 ÖH election
Vienna (OTS) – ‘Not enough money for basic AI research’ was the title of ORF Science on April 20, 2023 ( The article quotes from an interview with AI researcher Günter Klambauer, who doesn’t keep a good hair on the government’s AI policy. On the one hand, he criticizes the budget of only 7 million euros, which puts Austria on a par with Uganda.Furthermore, he mentions that there are no clear targets in the Austrian strategy.
The JUNOS students, who have already made it clear in the last few weeks what influence AI will have on education in the future ( are appalled: “7 million euros is not even a fraction of what the government spends on advertisements. If self-adulation continues over technologies of the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if AI developed elsewhere replaced certain parts of university teaching,” says Schobesberger.
In the context of this, the pink students are calling for a massive budget increase in the field of AI: “In a scientific field that will bring regarding massive changes in our educational path in a very short time, one cannot and must not save!” Schobesberger concludes.
