Acura first announced that its flagship sports car, the NSX, would cease to exist in 2021. At the time, the company’s boss hinted that it might not, in fact, be the end of the famous sports car, adding that one day we might see an electric NSX on the road.
Now, it looks like parent company Honda is ready to unveil the battery-powered beast, but sadly it won’t look like the car seen here on the cover.
The new NSX might be presented at the Japan Mobility Show, where Honda has an entire fleet of cars, planes and robots to display. This exhibition will open on October 25 for the media and on October 28 for the public, and will continue until November 5.
Tucked away at the end of a statement outlining everything that will be on display at Honda’s booth at the show, the Japanese automaker said it would unveil a “Specialty Sports Concept.”
According to Honda, the world premiere of the new model will showcase a car that “will allow the driver to experience the pure pleasure of driving and transcend the limitations of time.” A statement of intent for an electric sports car.
The new car will also “allow people to transcend their everyday lives,” whatever that means, and will come with hints of automated driving technology, according to Honda.
However, that’s all Honda has shared regarding the upcoming launch. No specifications, no details, no name, not even a vague image. All that means is that the new NSX won’t look anything like the pretty hatchback seen above.
This is the Sustaina-C Concept, which Honda will also present at the Japan Mobility Show next month.
The Sustaina-C uses materials such as recycled acrylic in its body panels. According to Honda, it is regarding demonstrating that we can continue enjoying the freedom of driving even if resources are limited.
