Actor Michael Lerner dies at 81 | Others

Actor Michael Lerner, famous for roles in the movies “Elf”, “Barton Fink”, “Godzilla” among others, passed away today at the age of 81.

In a message on his Instagram social network, Lerner’s nephew, “The Goldbergs” actor Sam Lerner, broke the news.

“Last night we lost a legend. It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was and how influential he was to me,” the lengthy message begins.

“Her stories have always inspired me and made me fall in love with acting. He was the coolest, most confident and talented guy, and the fact that he was my blood will always make me feel special. Everyone who knew him knows how crazy he was, in the best sense. I am very lucky to have spent so much time with him, and we are all lucky to continue to see his work for the rest of time. RIP Michael, enjoy your unlimited Cuban cigars, your comfortable armchairs and your endless movie marathon”, message ends.

However, the young Lerner did not reveal the causes of his uncle’s death.

According to the digital medium Indie Wire, Lerner began acting in plays and radio at the age of 20 following studying acting at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. In the 1970s, he regularly appeared as a guest on popular television series. The first appearance of him in the cinema was in the comedy by Paul Mazursky “Alex in Wonderland.”

In the early 1990s, the Coen brothers cast Lerner in the career-defining role in the 1991 classic “Barton Fink,” for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Jack Lipnick.

In the 21st century, Lerner remained in the public eye for her roles in “Elf” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” as well as a brief appearance on the musical series “Glee.”
