Johnny Depp is criticized by an actor who questions his talent
Cox said that he did not want to be part of the saga even though he had made a lot of money. For him, being part of the film would have meant investing a lot of time in that project and he would have lost all the good things he has done.
However, his most controversial statement was his opinion regarding Johnny Depp and his work. In an interview with GQ, Cox said that “Pirates of the Caribbean” is practically the Johnny Depp show and considers that Depp is very exaggerated in his role as Jack Sparrow and that he is an overrated actor.
But his criticism of the actor’s work is not limited to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ saga, since He also talked regarding other projects in which in his opinion he had not done a good job of acting. For example in Tim Burton’s movie ‘Scissorhands’.
“In ‘Scissorhands,’ let’s face it, if you come in with hands like that, pale makeup and scars, you don’t have to do anything, and he didn’t. Then he has done even less.”
Cox also said Depp’s career has been overshadowed by scandals. in which he has been involved and was surprised that the public was so interested in him.
“But people love him, or loved him. They don’t like it as much these days, of course.”
The actor not only spoke openly regarding Johnny Depp, but also regarding actor Ed Norton. Cox said that Norton was “a little upset because he fancies himself as a writer and director.”
Cox recalled that in a Spike Lee movie, the actor came to the set with changes to the script. However, the director did not allow it and made him perform the scene as originally written.
Brian Cox also refused to be part of the series ‘Game of Thrones’, this was not because he did not like the story or the actors, but because the economic proposal they made him was not to his liking.
On the other hand, his role was not that long-lived, so he would not have benefited from being in the series, since his salary would not have increased over time.
The actor confessed that in Hollywood sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, because even though he has turned down some roles, he has also been turned down. That was the case with Harry Potter. He auditioned for the part which Brendan Gleeson got. Cox thinks it was because Gleeson was more fashionable at the time and that’s how the industry works.
