Actor Kang Su-yeon passed away at the age of 55 around 3 pm today.
Kang collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage at his home in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 5th, and was transferred to the hospital in cardiac arrest, where he was treated in the intensive care unit for three days.
Kang debuted as a child actor at the age of 4, then worked as an actor and cultural administrator, working with Korean films for more than 50 years.
In particular, in 1987, with Im Kwon-taek’s film ‘The Seed’, he emerged as a ‘world star’ by winning the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival, one of the world’s top three film festivals.
Two years later, she won the Best Actress Award at the Moscow Film Festival, the highest authority in the communist bloc at the time, for the movie ‘Azeaze Baraze’.
Kang worked as a jury and executive committee member since the beginning of the Busan International Film Festival, and in 2015 served as the executive chairman and also worked as a cultural administrator.
Last year, he was cast in the lead role in Yeon Sang-ho’s new film ‘Jungi’ and was regarding to return to the screen following 9 years following the short ‘Juri’.
The film industry decided to set up the Film Seal Funeral Committee, chaired by Kim Dong-ho, former chairman of the Busan International Film Festival.
