Throughout his career, Pablo Alarcón knew how to reinvent himself: following the tragic death of his wife, Mónica Jouvet, he decided to try his luck in Puerto Rico and became one of the most important leading men in that country. Decades later, back in Argentina, he knew how to capitalize on his love for cooking and successfully led a culinary program. Now, in the midst of the crisis and due to the lack of work, the actor decided to do theater to the cap in different squares of the City of Buenos Aires. To talk regarding his present, the protagonist of a stairway to heaven was invited this Wednesday to Controversy in the Barbut his presence gave rise to retrace the difficult moment that one of his colleagues is going through.

“Jorge Martinez, an actor that we all love very much and that I have had to interview on many occasions, is living in the Casa el Teatro, due to a difficult economic situation”, revealed Marcelo Polino, following Alarcón recited a stanza from the play he is presenting in the squares and show a notebook sheet that had written the price of the dollar and the phrase: “The Homeland is in danger.”

“He is facing a harsh reality, and perhaps he does not have the physical conditions to go out to work in a square,” the journalist continued. Marcela Tinayre wanted to know, then, if the protagonist of the strange lady he had health problems. “It has some drawbacks,” Alarcón, who is a friend of Martínez and was aware of the situation, took the floor.

“She is in the care of Linda Peretz and all the people from the Casa del Teatro, who do a wonderful job,” insisted Polino, referring to the actress who presides over the institution. And he added: “I grew up making notes for him. He was the husband of Verónica Castro at one point, of Raffaella Carrá at another… he starred in the great soap operas of this country”.

“And it triumphed in Mexico, too. He is a great friend and, unfortunately, he is going through a very sad moment, ”added Alarcón. And Polino continued: “He was the protagonist of novels, like you, and people usually think that they have raised a lot of money throughout their careers. It is a fantasy”.

“It can go wrong for you… Why does everyone who is on TV have to be a millionaire?” Flavio Mendoza intervened. And he continued: “You have to tell the truth: artists are doing well, things are going badly, like everyone else; we do business and sometimes it doesn’t work out… And there are many artists who spend it”.

“If you see what an actor of a normal level charges, here and compare it with an actor of the same level in Europe or in the United States…”, Alarcón indicated, but the host replied that “it cannot be compared ” and recalled the strike of scriptwriters and actors that paralyzes the American entertainment industry in demand for better wages.

In an interview published by THE NATIONIn June 2021, Martínez had declared his decision to retire from the stage. “I was saying goodbye little by little. The last thing I did in theater was Live life, before the pandemic, with Nora Cárpena, Mercedes Carreras, Rodolfo Ranni and Alberto Martín. And with the pandemic we say goodbye. I haven’t done anything for so long, ”he assured. “It is almost a decision made. The last word has not been said ”, he added.

When asked regarding the reasons behind his decision, the actor explained: “I see that on television there is no longer fiction but entertainment with companions, hostesses, hostesses. And it’s not what I want. The great productions of other times are no longer made. Possibly I will retire with joy and with nostalgia as well. Just as I once left tennis and also acting to be a director and producer, I’m thinking regarding saying goodbye. I’m not so sure, but that’s where it goes.
