Activists want to prevent the eviction of the German Tesla protest camp

The initiative will exhaust all legal means to prevent an eviction, according to a statement from the “Stop Tesla” initiative on Friday. The initiative left it open which concrete steps they wanted to take.

The demonstrators are currently occupying part of the forest at the Tesla factory site. On Friday, the assembly authority confirmed an extension of the camp subject to conditions. One condition is that the activists have to dismantle their tree houses by Monday. The activists had already announced that they did not want to fulfill this requirement. Brandenburg’s Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) said that he saw this as a violation of the requirements, which could possibly mean the end of the meeting.

The activists’ goal is to prevent the forest from being cleared as part of a planned expansion of the Tesla site with a freight station. A majority of the citizens of Grünheide voted against expansion. The municipality of Grünheide suggests that only about half of the forest be cleared.
