Israeli activists have released black and yellow balloons near the border with Gaza in support of a ceasefire and will hold a large demonstration to demand Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu resign.

They called the action a day of disruption to mark nine months since the Hamas attack on October 7, quoted by Aljazeera, Sunday (7/7). They plan to hold large-scale demonstrations across Israel, including in front of the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv.

The events are part of what has been dubbed the “week of resistance,” which will see protesters gather across the country to call for elections and a ceasefire deal to secure the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza.

Demand Commitment

The Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza said the Israeli military’s claim that its fighters were present at the UNRWA-run school in Nuseirat was a lie. An Israeli attack on the al-Jaouni school killed 16 Palestinians and wounded dozens more.

Meanwhile, fighting continues in the Shujayea area of Gaza City, with Israeli strikes trapping many families and causing extensive damage. Israel also struck az-Zawayda in central Gaza and the al-Mina neighborhood in northern Gaza City, killing at least nine Palestinians.

A senior Hamas official said the group was willing to drop its demands but Israel must first commit to a permanent ceasefire, a condition that Zionists must meet before Hamas will sign a U.S.-proposed ceasefire deal.

Hamas will push the demands in negotiations during the initial lull in fighting scheduled for six weeks. (Cah/Z-7)
