Actions are promoted to mitigate Tegumentary Leishmaniasis in Paraguarí

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Chemical control actions to prevent the spread of the sandfly or karachã, a vector that transmits Leishmaniasis, were led by officials of the National Malaria Eradication Service (Senepa), from the operational zones of IX Paraguarí and XVIII Capital, in the district of Acahay, department of Paraguarí.

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease transmitted by the bite of the sandfly. This insect, known for its ability to spread quickly, finds certain environmental conditions to be the ideal habitat for its reproduction.

Through chemical control carried out in three cycles, following community interventions, the aim is to drastically reduce the population of these vectors in the urban and rural areas of Acahay.

In an effort to protect the health of its inhabitants and prevent the spread of the disease, the second spraying cycle covered the neighborhoods of San Blas, Monseñor Cárdenas, Central, Monseñor Bogarín, 15 de Agosto, San Ramón and the localities of Isla Báez and Arroyo Verde.

To avoid sandfly bites, you should use insect repellents, wear clothing that covers your entire body, place wire mesh on doors and windows, and use mosquito nets in bedrooms.

In addition, it is essential to periodically check homes and remove organic waste (fruit remains, vegetables, decomposing leaves, etc.) to prevent the reproduction of sandflies, the health department reported.
