The independent firm Aconcagua Energía seeks to develop electricity generation to supply its operations and commercialize renewable energy. They have a 35 MW thermal generation park and two solar parks in the final stage of detailed engineering. «Our strategic plan seeks to achieve a generation capacity of 150 MW installed“, indicated the founder, vice president and CFO of Aconcagua Energía, Javier Basso.
«The founding business model of Aconcagua was aimed at the hydrocarbon business. In recent years, it was oriented towards the energy transition and the sustainability of our carbon dioxide emissions,” Basso explained in dialogue with Power On.
The three business lines developed by the firm are: Upstream, Oil Services oriented to the operation of hydrocarbon deposits and Drilling and Work Over services, and Electric Power Generation through thermal generation and “in the near future through photovoltaic generation. This last leg is started developing over a year ago“, he expressed.
Regarding thermal generation, the firm has a park of regarding 35 MW of installed power. By the end of 2028, they plan to double that capacity and reach an installed capacity of more than 60 MW. “The energy is used in its own operations,” he noted.
The firm also has two solar parks in the final stage of detailed engineering. These are the Aconcagua solar park and the Malargüe solar park, in the south of the province of Mendoza. «Our strategic plan seeks to achieve a generation capacity of 150 MW installed. That is, to grow, in a period of three years, regarding 100 MW incremental to the generation park we have today“, he detailed.
The Aconcagua solar park will be located in Luján de Cuyo, in 200 hectares next to the Mendoza Provincial Industrial Park, where the refinery is located. “The park will have an installed capacity of 90 MWh It will be built in phases. This project already has priority before Cammesa for the first 25MW construction module »that it obtained in February of this year, he explained.
It is a park that will be scalable in its capacity. Phase 1 will have 20 MWh of power, equivalent to 13,000 homes. Two more stages will follow until reaching 90MWh of capacity. At that stage, they will have placed some 150,000 solar panels. The energy produced will be used for self-sufficiency and the Luján industrial park.
The Construction of the Malargüe solar park will begin following the one in Luján. It will produce regarding 20 MWh. This park also has dispatch priority, according to Basso. Both projects already have the permits and qualifications of each municipality and the regulatory body. Also, have the necessary preliminary studies to advance in its execution as indicated by the firm.
With the start-up of both parks It is expected that the energy supply will reach more than 51,000 homeswhile reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
Aconcagua Energía marked the bottleneck to evacuate electrical energy
The company’s vice president pointed out that renewable generation projects also have bottlenecks, as is the case with oil and gas production. The national electricity transmission capacity “also is at its maximum capacity. Therefore, to carry out renewable projects, Obtaining dispatch priority is decisive“, frame.
At present “The dispatch priority reserve has an associated cost during the stage prior to the connection of the park to the national electrical system, which Aconcagua is facing during this design stage while we finish the detailed engineering stage”, commented the referent.
Once this stage is finished, the process of purchasing components and supplies for the construction of the park begins. “Because a large part of the main components are manufactured outside of Argentina, we began with the process of foreign trade negotiations and authorizations for the importation of components“, he detailed.
Basso did not estimate a start-up date for the parks due to possible delays with import procedures: “given the current situation, these are not times that we can determine exactly«.
On the Aconcagua Energy website propose finalizing the strategic plan for the development of renewable generation to 2028. They plan to reach a total installed capacity of 150 MW distributed in the provinces of Mendoza, Río Negro and Neuquén, where it has concessions from the hand of the conventional to produce oil and gas.
