In less than 4 days, the French label Radio Chiguiro has brought together 49 electronic music titles to form URGENT, a charity compilation whose entirety of funds will be donated to an NGO. Many artists from Africa and the Diaspora took part in the movement.
ACIL means “EMERGENCY” in the Turkish language. A week following the worst earthquake to hit Turkey and Syria in decades, relief is pouring in from all sides. Convinced that music can also make things happen, the Radio Chiguiro label team mobilized in turn, by contacting the label’s historic artists and other key players on the global electronic scene. In just 4 days, 54 artists from 28 countries responded to the call by sending in exclusive tracks, bringing their stone to the building to mount this compilation in an emergency.
In 2020, the label signed its first release, also charitable, with the compilation United w/ Techo, which helped the association of the same name to bring food, hygiene kits and water to the slums of Latin America and the Caribbean, hard hit during the Covid crisis. This time, it is the NGO Alliance Urgences* which will use the money raised by the sale of the compilation to help the victims of the earthquake. Widely represented, Africa and its diasporas have contributed to this momentum of solidarity, offering the variety of styles that we know them: singeli, amapiano, afro-house, maloya, batida, afro-rap, baile funk and other essentials afro club. So many genres that complete this giant and colorful tracklist, which also brings together Latin downtempo nuggets, Afro-Peruvian experimentations, ambient, abstract hip-hop, Turkish techno or traditional Syrian music. .
URGENT is only available HERE at the ridiculous price of 10€. A great opportunity to drop a ticket for a good cause, while listening to quality sound!
*The Emergencies Alliance’s mission is to organize mobilization, and in particular fundraising, in the event of a humanitarian emergency. These funds are then allocated to the NGO members of the association (Action contre La Faim, Care France, Handicap International, Médecins du Monde, Plan International France and Solidarités International) with a view to organizing humanitarian aid in the field.
