Achaia: Indians and Arabs for Araxos? – In 2025 the competition

It is not excluded that Indians get involved with the exploitation of Araxos airport, in the context of finding a financing model, to upgrade the infrastructure of the 22 regional airports that have not been privatized and are operated by the Civil Aviation Service (CAA).

According to the latest information, among the companies that have shown interest in acquiring one or two airports is the Indian group Adani Group, in the wake of the tightening of Greek-Indian relations after the official visits of Prime Ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Narendra Modi to India and Greece.

Similarly, interest was expressed by the United Arab Emirates sovereign wealth fund, Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ).

It is still unknown which of the 22 airports the two groups are interested in, but the goal of the super fund is to grant all of them and as part of the contacts, some may be given a package to make them more attractive, as some of them have low traffic performance.

The study has already been updated with the projected growth of passenger traffic and the studies are being finalized to record the necessary extensions to improve the infrastructure and electromechanical equipment. Incentives are now being sought so that the competition, which is expected either later this year or early 2025, will attract the maximum possible interest.

Logically, the developments will take place within the next 2-3 months, with the matter being monitored by the local bodies.
