The managers of the company’s management are once once more snarling at the shareholders of the Patras Motorway. It has become an “institution” now, every now and then a supposed investor appears on the horizon, who as a “white knight” will come and save the investment from the disrepute into which the managers themselves threw it with their manipulations.
If, in fact, the supposed savior investor is also dressed in a veil – like the one presented a few days ago by the vice-president of the company and president of the Chamber of Achaia, Platonas Marlafekas – neither the story in the minds of some can acquire prestige. In a desperate attempt to keep the interest “hot”, for an investment that for the Patrinos turned out to be a joke or simply to throw ashes in the eyes and the ball in the stands.
The fact is that following 32 years the Patras Motorway remains a field in Chalandritsa, where the friendly four-legged ruminant hay-eaters of the region graze.
What should we first remember from February 1992, when the first presentation of the study for the Patras Motorway took place until today? A queue is formed by the supposed prospective investors and together with the questions addressed by the shareholders and those who had been actively involved with the plan, but left disappointed or sidelined, because they became annoying with the questions asked at each general meeting. Which, as “P” is informed, has to be repeated since the corona virus era. At that time, once more the vice-president of the Motorway and president of the Chamber of Achaia Platon Marlafekas, was making similar promises for potential investors from Greece and abroad, which were supposed to be at a … very advanced stage.
The project was also included in the development plan, but, following years of inactivity, and following the financial crisis preceded it, the supposed investment remained as it was, that is, a large field. The general assembly of the company decided, on the recommendation of the chairman, to release the absent Mr. Maroulis from his contractual obligations, without compensation to the shareholders. The letter of guarantee of 1,650,000 euros was also returned to him.
Question 1: Why was the investor let go without shareholder compensation?
Question 2: Did the major public interest shareholders demand an explanation?
Autokinitodromio Patras SA is not a “closed club”, but a multi-shareholder public interest company founded by more than 400 shareholders in 1995. Among the shareholders, the prefectural bodies have a dominant position with a total percentage of 36.93%, disposing of public money ( Chamber of Achaia 10.25%, Region of Western Greece 5.28%, Regional Association of Municipalities of Achaia 7.69%, Municipality of Erymanthos 3.11%, I.N Theotokou Chalandritsa 1.51%).
Question 3: The file for the inclusion of the Patras Motorway in the development law was given to a Thessaloniki company with a fee of 289,000 euros. Has this debt been paid or is it still “running” today? And if so, how much can this pending situation threaten the property of Autokintodromio Patras SA, i.e. the area of 1,200 acres in Chalandritsa?
