Caracol Radio learned of the report from Acemi, an entity that unites the EPS mainly from the contributory regime, on the active principles (these are the distinctive components of each medicine) that according to their statistics they are out of stock.
From the report of 1,242 shortages of medicines, it is highlighted that, lThose used to treat high blood pressure (such as Amlodipine, Valsartan or Enalapril) are the least available to citizens. Those used for mental health treatments (such as quetiapine, trazodone or risperidone) and those that we commonly use to treat pain (acetaminophen, diclofenac and ibuprofen) continue on the list.
Among other treatment groups affected by low drug availability are those used for problems cardiovascular, cancer, epilepsy, diabetes, HIV, pulmonary hypertension, anticoagulants and contraceptives.
“We are especially concerned regarding the availability of multiple key active principles to guarantee the adequate treatment of people with chronic conditionsespecially medicines for the treatment of mental disorders and some antibiotics and analgesics”, said Paula Acosta, CEO of Acemi.
Beyond the list, it is worrying that, according to Acemi’s analysis, supply problems have persisted since the middle of last year and in at least half of the references for which an alert was reported in the previous EPS report. The situation would only have been controlled in 15% of these drugs.
