PAlmost six billion euros are at stake for Sony au UK. As the Guardian reports, a class action lawsuit has been brought once morest Sony over the PlayStation brand, accused of taking advantage of its dominant position in the UK market to overcharge Playstation Store customers in the UK. The action, led by a consumer advocate named Alex Neill, alleges that Sony is “scamming” UK gamers by overselling digital games, additional content and subscriptions.

In detail, Sony is accused of imposing unfair conditions on video game developers and publishers, including the collection of a 30% commission on each purchase made on the PlayStation store. This commission would have, according to Alex Neill, caused an increase in the price of content for players. “With this legal action, explains Alex Neill, I am defending millions of British players who have been involuntarily overcharged. We believe that Sony ripped off its customers”.

Damage between 80 and 665 euros per player

If the complaint is successful, Sony might risk a lot: all UK residents who have purchased content from the PlayStation Store since August 19, 2016 are affected and eligible for future compensation.
