Accuracy: On the “highest shelf” is oil, followed by fruits and vegetables – “Headache” for thousands of consumers – 2024-07-26 21:06:57

In many cases, the prices of basic consumer goods on supermarket shelves are prohibitive, cutting into the monthly budget of households.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking to citizens in Galatsi, said he was determined to deal with the monster of precision.

“We will continue to fight to address the problems, to deal with the monster of precision, to fight those who, by stepping on an existing global problem, take advantage of chronic market weaknesses and overcharge consumers. I will not tolerate the inflation of greed and I have said many times that the state has the power, the control mechanisms to put the market in order and we will do this to continue to support the incomes of citizens, especially the most vulnerable, as we do. continuation” emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

At the top of the increases was olive oil, with the price in December increasing by 58.5%. Followed by fruits and vegetables with an increase of 15% and 14% respectively, fish 8.4% and meat with an increase of 6.5%.

DIMEA has been fighting against profiteering for months, which in 2023 carried out 25,267 inspections, imposing 1,865 fines totaling 13.41 million euros.

In order to combat the phenomena of profiteering and unjustified price increases, the government’s package of measures focuses on the de-escalation of prices in basic consumer goods.

DIMEA’s inspections of companies that sell baby milk are in full progress, with the possibility of severe fines being imposed in the event that profiteering is found.

K. Skrekas: The collection of the fines is indisputable

“The collection of the fines is indisputable, the controls are daily and thorough throughout the market and, if necessary, additional measures will be taken for any product categories whose prices in Greece are found to be unreasonably high” said Development Minister Kostas Skrekas.

The imprint of the government’s new measures will be seen in the next period in the consumer basket with initiatives that include permanent price reductions of up to 20%.

St. Kasselakis: The government’s measures are too little too late

“The government’s measures and interventions are all too little too late, when it is not an open mockery of the country’s population, as are the measures to deal with the accuracy it presented,” emphasized the president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis.
