The use of AI will primarily “probably not” lead to the destruction of jobs, but rather to possible changes in the quality of jobs – especially with regard to work intensity and autonomy, according to the paper published on Monday.
According to the study, women will also be more affected by the use of AI than men, so much greater effects are expected in higher-income countries than in those with lower incomes.
AI will “rather allow activities to be supplemented than replaced”. According to the ILO study, around a quarter of the tasks involved in office work are likely to be affected by the use of artificial intelligence, with management and technicians only using it to a lesser extent.
In addition, there are significant differences between higher-income and low-income countries: In richer countries, it can be expected that 5.5 percent of jobs will be affected by the use of AI, compared to only 0.4 percent in poorer countries.
The proportion of work affected by AI will therefore be more than twice as high for women as for men – which is due to a significant proportion of women in office jobs.
