According to Maduro, they want to turn the FANB into an “internal occupation force”

Nicolás Maduro expressed his concern over what he considers attempts to dismantle the current relationship between the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and Venezuelan civil society. Maduro questioned the will of those who, according to him, seek to end what he described as a “golden era” of collaboration between the military and civilians.

The president suggested that there are efforts to transform the FANB into an entity that serves private interests and not the people, referring to these as “interests of oligarchies” and “an empire” that aspires to exert influence over Venezuela.

“Do you want to end the golden age of perfect civil-military union that we have experienced? There are those who want to destroy it, and turn the Armed Forces into an internal occupation force to enforce the interests of the oligarchy, of the empire that wants to get its claws into the country,” he warned.

He also stressed that the civil-military union is called to “consolidate and advance towards future horizons.”

Maduro has repeatedly reiterated his position that the FANB must remain loyal to the political project it represents, in the face of what he perceives as external and internal threats that seek to destabilize his administration.
