According to Jayasuriya, the story of the film was changed; The film was not a big hit as I feared: Siddique
Fukri was a 2017 film directed by Siddique starring Jayasurya. Fukri was not able to become a huge hit at the theatre.
Director Siddique says that he had decided on a story with a fantasy element for Fukry, but later avoided it on the instructions of hero Jayasuriya. He was talking about the history of Safari TV through me in the program.
“After Ladies and Gentlemen, I decided to do a short film. That’s what Fukry did. Jayasurya was decided as the hero. The real Fukri story was a very different thread.
Jayasuriya loved it as soon as he said its line. The film tells the story and drama of a royal family and a young man who arrives there.
About halfway through the scripting I got a very different angle on this. Later I worked on the film according to that.
It was a fantasy element. Through that, a depth came to the film.
At first, the movie ended where it started, and I had that dissatisfaction in my mind. That fantasy element comes from the thought of what can be brought to take this film to another level. I was thrilled with that.
So the script worked on it. Another movie of Jayasurya released about fifteen days before the shooting of the movie. It was also this fantasy movie.
That’s when Jayasuriya heard Fukry’s new version. Jayasurya was very upset with that. ‘Oh, this is not right, we have to change it, Siddika, or it will be like the movie that just came out,’ said Jayasuriya.
‘No, there is a difference between that and this. Let me watch the movie after its release and then I can change it if I want. Because this fantasy is very important in Fukry.
If we change this, the power of the film will decrease. There won’t be an element of surprise for those who leave the film,’ I said. But Jayasurya did not agree. Jayasurya said, ‘Oh, that can’t be done, it will be a mess, the same element of the movie that has just released will come into Fukrik.’
Jayasurya was very upset. According to him, if the same thing is in this film, then we consulted and removed that fantasy portion from Fukry.
As I had feared, the film ended without an element of surprise. It turned out to be a normal movie. The total power of the movie is gone. “It was not a big hit, but there was no big financial loss either,” said Siddique.
Siddique, Anu Sithara, Prayaga Martin, KPAC Lalitha, Lal, Bhagat Manuel and Nirmal Palazhi were other prominent actors in Fukry.
