In the course of the extensive report by a commission of historians regarding the historical burden of Linz street names All biographies of the women honored in the “Walk of Fem” were also subjected to a more detailed examination. Three people turned out to be problematic. The responsible committee, headed by city councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens), has now decided to remove the names.

LINZ. On behalf of the city of Linz, a commission of historians examined all street names for their historical burden. In addition, the female personalities listed in the “Walk of Fem” were also checked. Three people turned out to be problematic: The extensive research revealed clear commitments to National Socialism by Berta Hackel, Louise Kartousch and Friederike Stolz.

Historian commission advises removal

The commission – led by the head of the archives of the city of Linz, Walter Schuster – therefore made the clear recommendation to remove these three names. The Committee for Climate, Urban Green, Women and Education, headed by City Councilor Eva Schobesberger, unanimously decided to follow it. In a first step, the researched biographies of doctor Berta Hackel, singer Louise Kartousch and artist Friederike Stolz will be published on the “Walk of Fem” website.

Replacement planned for spring

At the same time, the personalities are taken from the list of honored personalities that can be viewed there. The changes to the golden stars on the Ernst-Koref-Promenade will not take place until spring due to the weather. In one of the upcoming committee meetings it will be decided which three personalities should be listed instead.
