A 16-year-old German vacationer who was found dead in San Candido in South Tyrol on Friday “presumably” died of frostbite, according to an autopsy. South Tyrolean media reported this on Saturday, citing the public prosecutor’s office in Bolzano. No fatal injuries were reported. The teenager had not returned from a morning walk and was eventually discovered in a forest near her accommodation.

A search operation was previously launched for the 16-year-old, who was on vacation with her family in San Candido. Finally, she was found by a dog from the mountain rescue service’s dog team on the Innichberg below a forest path in rough terrain, it was said.

Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. An emergency doctor could only determine that the girl was dead. It was suspected that the teenager may have slipped and fallen on the icy path.
