British research published by Journal of Sleep Research noted that people with beliefs in ghosts, aliensin contact with the dead and near-death experiences or paranormal cause sleep disturbances.
For the study, some 9,000 people were surveyed and through their responses it was possible to determine “that there are associations between beliefs in the paranormal and various sleep variables.”
Insomnia from believing in ghosts, aliens and paranormal situations
The researchers noted that rest can be affected in different ways; can be insomnia, falling asleep only a few hours or being in periods of constant latency. However, all these “symptoms” were related to the same phenomena.
40% of Argentines sleep badly.
One aspect to highlight was the link between those people who believed in the visit of aliens to Earth who had suffered sleep paralysis and the exploding head syndrome. The first of them is the inability to move when you wake up and in the second, the person can hear loud noises and blows when sleeping.
The experts established that these last two variables are also related to possible hallucinations that the person may suffer. Likewise, these inexplicable phenomena can generate certain anxiety in peoplewhich directly impacts the quality of sleep.
Although the responses were conclusive, the researchers themselves remarked that the number of respondents is not enough. In order to have more representative conclusions and to be able to provide solutions to combat dream disorders, the number should be increased.
“This type of investigation is important; it might be a first step to obtain information and use it in the psychoeducation of people who struggle with these sleep problems”, the researchers highlighted.
